Description
Castell is a single-storey house built from local stone rubble on boulder foundations, with a slate roof that likely replaced the original straw roof in the 19th century. The house consists of one main room, with the lower end partitioned off to create an inner room. There is a boarded door set in a recess against the gable stack, with one small timber casement window on each side and another in the gable end. An extension has been added at the stack end, which has been widened at the front, along with an additional beast house at the south end. At the north end, the building features an ovoid animal pen, and it is surrounded by boulder walls that create small, irregularly-shaped crofts.
Inside, the gable stack contains a small Greybridge cast iron range with an integral iron surround, and there is a panelled cupboard located behind it. The interior also features one cross beam that supports the ceiling joists.
