Description
Hillside is a building designed in the Arts and Crafts style. It features roughcast render with some brick dressings and plain tiled roofs with brick chimneys. The windows are small-paned casements throughout. The structure is based on an L-plan but includes a complex arrangement of separately roofed blocks. The front elevation is highlighted by a wide half-hipped gabled wing on the left, which extends forward from the hipped roof of the central section of the house. The roof-line of this wing slopes down low on either side, covering a glazed sun-room on the right and the small casement window of an inglenook on the left. There is a wide canted bay window on the ground floor and a long 5-pane casement window just below the eaves line above. The eaves have a bold overhang. An angled chimney stack is located in the re-entrant angle, connected to the roof-line of the wing by a small dormer. The entrance is to the right in a separately roofed porch block, featuring paired doors with strap hinges beneath a canopy supported by moulded console brackets. Above the doorway, there is a 2-light casement window that is off-set. A lower service wing is set back to the right, behind a small enclosed courtyard.
