Description
Clatterbrune and Clatterbrune West is a building designed in the Arts and Crafts style, influenced by W E Nesfield. It features a main block that is two stories high with an attic, along with a cross range to the east and a one-story plus attic extension to the west. The exterior is finished with bullnosed rubble facings and free stone dressings, while the east gables display decorative tile hanging and the west gable is roughcast. The roofs are tiled, with the western roof recently renewed, and the building has wide bargeboards and tall, panelled brick stacks with corbelled tops, topped with an iron weather vane.
The entrance front includes stone mullioned and transomed windows for the hall and stair, which are leaded with colored glazing. There are timber casements and various sash windows throughout the building. A half-timbered entrance porch features bargeboards and a pendant inscribed with "1884 AG." The porch has a timber arched entrance beneath a crenellated tie-beam, leading to a panelled door. A conservatory is attached to the southeast corner.
The eastern gable is jettied and adorned with decorative tile hanging, featuring an open-work timber balcony that is cantilevered on massive stone brackets, with French windows below. A single timber pier supports the corner, with "1884" carved on the wall post above. There is also a one-story summer house attached at the southeast corner, and the northern front exhibits similar detailing to the gabled east front.
