Description

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Therese is a church built in a simple Mediterranean style, featuring rendered blockwork on a stone plinth with some stone details and a slate roof. The gabled entrance includes a belcote and a deeply-set round-headed doorway, above which is a roundel depicting the Assumption. Each side elevation has two grey slate windows, each with two lights and a circular light above. On the left side, the roofslope extends over a small chapel with small windows on the sides. On the right side, there is an annexe, formerly the Nun's choir, which has four square windows and a porch. The rear of the church connects to a house via a 19th-century corridor that includes vestries.

Inside, the roof features plain scissor trusses and plywood boarding, while the walls are plastered. The sanctuary has two round-headed doorways on the rear wall leading to the sacristy. The rear wall displays a "chi rho" symbol by David Jones. The altar is set on a plinth that is said to contain stones from medieval foundations. To the left, there is a tabernacle on a pier designed by Pollen in 1975, and the chapel has small rectangular stained glass windows by Paul Quail. To the right is the annexe, which also has a scissor truss roof similar to that of the church. Above the entrance doorway, there is an inscription designed by David Jones.
