Description

Northcot is a house set in a garden behind an impressive stone wall with brick capping, accessed through a gateway featuring stone piers and a slated roof. The house has a slate roof made of small slates and is constructed from dark stone, making it the only house in Wales by the architect North that is built in exposed stone, aside from estate buildings.

The three-gabled front faces west, with the central gable slightly recessed. This central gable features a narrow 12-pane sash window above a recessed porch that has a broad Gothic archway. The porch includes slate steps and a slate floor decorated with red and green tiles, along with a narrower Gothic arched doorway that has an original studded door with a handle and knocker. The outer gables each have 18-pane sash windows on both the first and ground floors.

On the left elevation (north), there is a stone gabled dormer, and below it on the ground floor is a semi-hexagonal bay. To the left of this bay are two tall small-pane sash windows and a door. The right elevation is similar but does not have a bay.

At the rear, the house features a similar three-gabled elevation to the front, with a central very tall small-pane sash window that lights the stairs, and 18-pane sashes in the outer gables. On the ground floor, there are two small single-storey extensions at the outer bays, each with a gabled roof, a single small-pane sash window, and a large brick chimney at the inner corner.

Inside, the hall has pillars that support flanking arches, and the floor is made of red and green tiles. The staircase, lit by a tall window, divides to form a gallery around the hall. To the right of the hall, the dining room features a fireplace adorned with blue and green Islamic-style tiles. To the left of the hall, the sitting room has a wooden over-mantel and a large Gothic arch leading to a bay window.
