Description
The Smallest House is a very narrow, single-fronted, two-storey house with a red-painted roughcast front, a lean-to slate roof, and a brick stack on the right side against the town wall. To the left, there is a higher rubble-stone wall, which is the rebuilt wall of a former adjoining cottage that was demolished in the first decade of the 20th century. The entrance features a split boarded door on the left and a fixed window on the right. On the first floor, there is a small four-pane horizontal-sliding sash window.
Inside, the lower storey includes a lintelled fireplace and a cupboard bench. The walls are boarded, and the floor is laid with red and black tiles. Access to the upper storey is via a ladder stair, which contains a corner 19th-century fireplace and a cupboard built into the rear wall.
