Description

The northwest portal of the Conwy Railway Tunnel is constructed from snecked rock-faced stone and spans a deep cutting. It features flanking battered buttresses. Above the round arch, there is a corbel table and a parapet, which has a saddleback coping made of tooled stone. The parapet is splayed towards the southern bank, where there is a rectangular terminal pier topped with a rock-faced cap, although this was partly overgrown during the survey. A similar pier is located on the northern side, but it was obscured by vegetation at the time of inspection.
