Description

This is a two-storey, three-window house and shop, dating from the 18th century and constructed of brick with a slate roof. A central brick stack rises from the front roof slope, with a shared stack to the right and an offset stack on the rear wing. The building is divided into a shop on the right and a narrower house front on the left. The shop front is set back behind a patterned black-and-white tile floor and has glazed green tile reveals. The central shop door is glazed with a lower panel, flanked by large, two-pane horned sash windows with marble sills and green-tile stallrisers. Cast-iron grilles are positioned above the windows and door. A repainted fascia runs across the entire elevation, beneath a deep cornice.

The house entrance is on the left, featuring a panel door with an elliptical glazed panel and an overlight containing frosted and coloured Art Nouveau glass. The windows are plain sashes; the top sashes incorporate Art Nouveau style frosted and coloured glass. To the right of the entrance is a pair of sashes, sharing a black-painted lintel with the doorway. The first floor is symmetrical over both the house and shop, with a moulded brick egg-and-dart frieze at sill level. A sash window sits centrally beneath a black-painted lintel, while oriel windows flank the sides, each set under bracketed, ornate imitation timber-framed gables with finials. These oriel windows have three-light transomed windows, with arched transoms in the centre and frosted glass in the upper lights, mirroring the detailing of the sash windows. Small moulded brick panels are positioned on either side of the oriel windows.

The rear elevation is pebble-dashed and painted grey, with openings featuring smooth-rendered architraves. A lean-to has been added to the left side, with a cast-iron grille above the original back door, and a four-pane sash window above the lean-to on the first floor. A gabled wing extends from the right side, featuring a four-pane sash window and a narrow horizontal window in its lower gable end. The first floor of this wing has a paired four-pane sash window and a similar single window to the left. A single-pitch projection has been added to the right side of this wing.

Inside, original marble slabs are retained behind the windows.
