Description
26 Chapel Street is a two-storey house with four windows, featuring pebble-dashed walls, a slate roof with a skylight, and a central rebuilt stone chimney stack. The openings have smooth-rendered eared architraves. Originally, the front consisted of two single-fronted cottages, each with an entrance on the right, but these doors have been replaced with small-pane windows. On the left side of each cottage, there are ground-floor 12-pane and first-floor 9-pane hornless sash windows, with the upper right window being horizontal-sliding.
The right gable end is made of painted rubble stone and retains the gable end of a lower building that used to be attached. The left gable end has been rebuilt and features inserted small-pane windows on the right side, along with a one-storey projection on the left side. The modern entrance is located at the rear, on the right side of the main range, and includes a shallow lean-to porch with double half-glazed doors, above which is an inserted window. On the left side of the rear, there is an added two-storey wing from the late 20th century.
Inside the modern porch, there is a replacement boarded door with a six-pane horizontal-sliding sash window to its right. The original cottages had a single-unit plan with back-to-back fireplaces, and the right-hand side retains its fireplace with a timber lintel and a spine beam.
