Description

Hendrewaelod is a large, two-storey, C-shaped house built of rendered rubble, with the garden front scribed. It features shallow-pitched, hipped and gabled slate roofs, along with plain rendered stacks topped with Victorian pots. The garden front has five bays and includes a part-glazed entrance from around 1900 in bay four, which is located behind a contemporary semi-octagonal conservatory. A glazed veranda supported by cast iron columns extends from this entrance to the right in front of bay five. The house has late Georgian 16-pane sash windows, with those on the first floor having slightly cambered heads.

The main entrance is on the east side and includes a 20th-century single-storey porch and a six-panelled inner door. The porch is positioned at the corner between the central range and the right-hand gabled wing, which, along with the left wing, forms a 'U' shape on this side. Both wings have gable-end chimneys, with the right wing featuring a built-in bell niche. There are additional cambered sash windows as previously described. On the south side, there are two tripartite windows with configurations of 8, 16, and 8 lights on both floors. The north side is pebbledashed and displays an asymmetrical arrangement of 6- and 12-pane modern windows. There is a boarded door to the left and a modern part-glazed porch with an adjacent storeyed WC projection to the right.

Inside, the large stair hall features a segmental-arched entrance with reeded pilasters and a plain cornice. The pitch pine well stair has a mahogany swept rail and decorative tread ends, along with stick balusters and a balustraded gallery. The interior includes six-panel pine doors, plain moulded doorcases, and panelled reveals. In the cellar, there is an in situ stopped chamfered ceiling beam that relates to the earlier core of the building.
