Description
Salem Baptist Chapel is a chapel and manse founded in 1786 and remodeled in 1841. It is constructed of rendered rubble and features slate roofs that are hipped over the chapel. The building has a symmetrical design, with single-storey hipped-roofed outer porches and two central multi-pane windows that have moulded entablatures and arched heads. A framed date plaque is inset between these windows, and there are modern boarded doors.
To the left, there is a rendered, gabled wing that projects slightly forward and overlaps the main block. This wing has a longer left-hand roof pitch, plain bargeboards, and a wooden finial. It also features a 16-pane recessed sash window with a simple stucco architrave, and beneath this window is a passage that leads to the graveyard at the rear. The rear of the building has three tall 12-pane near-flush windows with gently cambered heads. The interior was not inspected during the survey conducted in October 1995.
