Description

The Paragon Electrical Shop is a building dating from the early 20th century. It has a slate roof and a rendered upper floor with brick dressings. The facade features a contemporary shopfront. Flanking the central entrance are panelled pilasters, designed in a classical style, which support a shallow entablature with a sunblind below. A fascia board displays incised gilded lettering spelling out “Paragon,” along with floral decoration. A ventilation grille sits below the fascia, and the shop windows are accented with elongated shafts and curvaceous Art Nouveau-style brackets. The windows incorporate curved panes, and the recessed, arched central door has Art Nouveau glazing featuring etched glass with the inscription “Paragon.” Mosaic paving within the recess also bears the inscription “Paragon.” To the right of the shopfront is a recessed entrance leading to the accommodation above the shop.
