Description

The War Memorial is designed in the form of a medieval wayside cross and dates from the 20th century. It features an octagonal tapering shaft that supports a sword, with the haft designed as a wheel cross. The memorial has octagonal stepped stages that are inscribed with the names of those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, as well as the Falklands War of 1982, with one stage added after 1945. The inscription reads 'Y mae eu henw yn byw byth'. It is raised on three octagonal steps, at the top of which are stone urns for flowers. The memorial was presented to the community by C W May Massey of Newry Estate, Llanfairfechan. Originally located at the junction of Village Road and Penmaenmawr Road, it was moved around 1960.
