Description

Hen - Deiliau is a T-shaped 17th century farmhouse with later additions. It features rubble construction and an old, heavily-grouted slate roof. The building is single-storey with a large attic dormer on the right, which has a 20th century steel-framed window and a hipped roof. There are two rubble chimneys with weather-coursing and capping. The entrance is off-centre, consisting of a stable door flanked by modern windows that replace earlier openings. To the left, there is a blocked entrance with a fragmentary 19th century 9-pane sash window. Additionally, there is a 19th century carthouse extension to the left, which has a renewed slate roof, a wide cart entrance, and external stepped access to the left gable leading to an upper boarded door. On the right, beyond the dormer, there is another stable door, followed by a byre extension with a similar entrance and a corrugated iron roof. At the rear, there is a small range with a squat end chimney featuring weather-coursing, and external upper gable access to the right.

Inside, the primary block has four bays with collar-and-tie-beam upper cruck trusses, where the tie-beams are cut at the ends and are pegged and chamfered, with two of the original collars still surviving. There are remains of 19th century roof boarding, and the byre section has a three-bay modern roof. The former ceiling has been removed, and the fireplaces are blocked.

This 17th century vernacular farmhouse retains its historic character and features an upper cruck roof.
