Description

Tryfal Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse dating to the second quarter of the 19th century, with a likely earlier core. It is constructed of squared, coursed blocks with a renewed slate roof. The farmhouse has three squat chimneys, one off-centre to the left and two at the ends; it features weatherboarding and plain chimney caps. The front is asymmetrical, incorporating two entrances. The left-hand entrance has a modern door with a porch canopy. To the left of this entrance are two 16-pane recessed sash windows, which are modern replacements for the original 19th-century windows. The second entrance, on the right-hand side, has a later 19th-century six-panel door set within a modern, pebble-dashed porch with a slate roof. Flanking this entrance are windows mirroring those to the left, with two to the left and one to the right; all have six 12-pane sashes, also modern replacements. The first floor also features six 12-pane sashes. A single-storey lean-to has been added to the rear.

Adjoining the farmhouse to the right, set back slightly and stepped down, is an earlier byre and stable block, likely dating to the late 17th century. This section is constructed of rubble and includes a stable door and two further boarded doors, located beyond a short projecting stretch of rubble walling that separates the forecourt from the yard. A rubble and corrugated iron lean-to extends from the right gable end. The interior is largely plain, with one chamfered main beam and a plastered-over ingle-beam.

The farmhouse retains its external character and shows evidence of an earlier building phase.
