Description

Teil Mawr is a farmhouse constructed from rubble stone with some parts rendered, featuring a slate roof and stone gable stacks, along with modern windows. The building has a three-bay, two-storey 'L'-shaped plan that is built into a slope, with a later two-storey gabled wing added to the rear. At the time of inspection, the upper end was not part of the living accommodation. The main elevation faces west and includes an off-centre cat slide extension topped with a corrugated tin roof. The wall to the right of this extension is rendered and has two upper windows, with a porch located at the angle of the extension below the first window and a ground floor window to the right. To the left of the front extension, the upper end features a boarded door and a leaded window. There is an external gable stack with weathering courses, an undulating ridge, and a small roof light to the right.

The south elevation displays a plain gable end for the front range, while the later wing has a door and window on both the ground and first floors, along with a plain west gable. The north return of the wing has a window located below the eaves and another blocked window at the angle with the front range. The rear elevation of the front range includes a low window to the left and a higher blocked window to the right.

Inside, the porch leads to the front door and hall, which features a dog leg stair made of stone steps and a ladder. These stone steps may have originally provided access to the upper end, although this access is now blocked. From the hall, there is a door leading to the living room at the lower end, a kitchen at the rear, and another door leading to the rear wing. The first floor is divided into a bedroom and bathroom above the lounge, with two additional bedrooms in the rear wing. The upper end contains a large fireplace in the gable and a pegged collar truss roof. The front 'dairy' extension, accessed through a boarded door from the porch, retains a wide offset at wall plate level and features a recess below this and another recess on the entrance wall, which may relate to earlier doorways and windows that predate the later porch and the creation of a smaller house.
