Description

The farm building at Ty'n-y-bryn is a Grade II listed structure built from irregular locally sourced boulders and topped with a slate roof, although part of the roof has been replaced with corrugated iron. This long building consists of a stable, a three-bay cowhouse, and a three-bay barn closest to the road. The main openings face the farmyard at the back of the house, and there is a lean-to added to the rear of the barn, following the slope of the roof.

The stable features a door with a timber lintel, while the cowhouse has two doors, one of which has been converted into a four-paned window. The cowhouse also includes blocked slit vents and a pitching door at the northern end. The barn has a central pair of doors, a pitching door, and a granary above that is accessed by an external staircase located at the road end. This staircase has sawn slate treads and a churn stand underneath. The gable at the road end has been constructed, and the upper gable end was being rebuilt at the time of inspection.

Inside, the cowhouse is supported by two trusses with two tiers of purlins, while the barn features queen-post trusses, also with two tiers of purlins, and has a flagged floor. The stable at the upper end contains two stalls and an open bay.
