Description
The building at Pen-y-meini is a barn and cowhouse dating from the 19th century. It features a barn in the western four bays and a calf-house with a granary above in the eastern bay. The structure is built from heavy rubble and boulders, with some galletting, and has an old slate roof between boulder-coped gables. On the south side, there is a cart entrance with a timber lintel in the second bay, along with windows in the eastern bay. The eastern end bay is floored, and access to the granary on the upper floor is via an external stone staircase leading to a boarded door. The calf-house has an enlarged door with a low lintel that opens to the yard. At the rear of the two eastern bays, there is a later added lean-to that now serves as a garage, featuring boarded glazed doors at the eastern end.
Inside, there are three trusses, one of which is of a devolved raised cruck type, complete with tie beams, although one tie beam has been removed. The collars are straight and high-set.
