Description

Tan-y-Foel is a 19th-century house that stands two stories tall, built of rubble and topped with a hipped slate roof. It features a central plan with two prominent twin stacks that have moulded capping and weather-coursing. On the south face, there is a gabled porch with a boarded door to the east and an arched window with a label facing south. The house has modern flanking windows and additional windows on the sides, including one on each floor, although the ground floor window to the east is blocked. There are three more first-floor windows on the south, also with modern glazing. A boarded entrance is located on the west side of the north face at the junction with the primary wing, where weather-coursing is visible at their intersection.

The earlier block is a low structure built of rubble on rock foundations, featuring a tall, old slate roof. It has modern windows on the west and east sides, and external stepped access leads to the north gable end, providing access to an upper boarded door. To the right of this door, there is a wide, open cart entrance with an exposed, re-used timber lintel.

The primary block consists of three bays with full cruck trusses, which include pegged cruck spurs and a tie beam in the northernmost truss. This area shows signs of a former partition beneath, suggesting it was once a service bay. Inside, there are later roughly-scantled ceiling beams and a 19th-century rubble dividing wall in the center of the second bay. Blocked primary windows are present on the east and west, with the western window featuring a timber lintel. A 19th-century washboiler with a squat chimney is located externally at the northeast corner, and the floor is made of old stone flags.
