Description
The former primary house at Bronwian is a byre built from rubble, featuring a rubble plinth on the downhill (north) gable end and rubble gable parapets, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The main (east) front has an entrance flanked by small windows, with the right window now serving as an additional entrance. There is another entrance to a later bay addition on the right, along with stable doors. A blocked entrance is located at the rear (to the right), accompanied by a small unglazed window to the right and another blocked window to the left. To the left, there is a contemporary outshut with a gable parapet and an entrance at the north end. A loading bay is present on the south gable end, featuring a boarded door.
Inside, there is a large fireplace on the south gable end, likely from the former parlour, which has a stopped-chamfered bressummer and a recess to the right that may have once housed a stair. The left bay has a beamed ceiling with ogee stops on the chamfered joists. Tie beams support chamfered principal rafters, with one between the first and second bays showing a groove that suggests a boarded partition extending to the roof. The second and third bays appear to have always been open to the roof, likely forming the hall. The lack of a hall fireplace may be attributed to the addition of the bay to the north.
