Description
Fronwian is a vernacular farmhouse dating from the 18th century, featuring one-and-a-half storeys. It was built next to an earlier house, which is now a byre, indicating it replaced that structure. The farmhouse is constructed of whitened rubble and has an old slate roof with end chimneys that have plain capping and weathercoursing. The entrance is off-centre to the right and includes a recessed boarded door. Above the door is an inscribed plaque with the initials ID, EP, IP, WR, ER, and a date. There are flanking 4-pane windows from the late 19th or early 20th century. The upper floor has three rubble gabled dormers with similar glazing. To the left, there is a later extension with a corrugated iron roof. At the rear, there are two small casement windows on the right, consistent with the front, and a further modern window. The right gable is pebbledashed.
Although not inspected, it has been reported that the farmhouse retains its original layout, featuring stop-chamfered ceiling beams and joists, a large fireplace with a bressumer supported by rough stone corbels, and a well-crafted post and panel partition on the first floor.
