Description
The South Farmyard Range at Nant Farm is a linear group of farm buildings dating from the 19th century, forming the southern part of an L-plan farm complex that includes a separately listed eastern range and a farmhouse attached to the northern end of the eastern range. The buildings feature granite rubble walls and slated gabled roofs with shallow eaves.
The main range consists of a cow-house on the left and a cartshed on the right. The cow-house has two shuttered and part-glazed windows flanking a central door, while the cartshed has double boarded doors beneath a long slab lintel. An additional brewhouse is located at the right end, featuring a red brick stack on the left side of the roof slope, a single door to the left of centre, and pigsties at the rear. There is also a boarded door in the eastern gable end of the main range, leading to the cow-house.
Inside, the cow-house has a cobbled floor that is cambered towards a central passage with drain channels. There are timber partitions for the stalls and larger undivided areas at each end. The structure features king-post trusses and steps leading to a loft above the cartshed, which includes a central timber pillar.
