Description

7-8 Castle Square A pair of shops with dwellings above, forming part of a terrace. 3 storeys and a single bay each. The front is scribed roughcast, the roof of slate with brick end stacks. No 7 has a replaced slate roof on a dentilled eaves cornice, while No 8 retains a graded slate roof on a moulded cornice. The bay structure of the original 3-bay building is discernible in the middle and upper storeys. The original central bay has blocked windows with chamfered reveals spanning both properties, while the R-hand bay (No 8) has horned sash windows in chamfered surrounds, 12-pane in the middle storey and 9-pane in the upper storey. In the L-hand bay (No 7) are lately inserted tripartite 4-pane sash windows in each storey. Of an early C20 shop front to No 8, panelled pilasters and fascia end panels are retained, but the lower storey storey is otherwise a remodelled late C20 shop front. No 7 has a late C20 shop front in the lower storey.
