Description
Bont Fechan is a bridge featuring three major segmental arches made of rubble voussoirs. The eastern arch is the earlier of the two and is flush with the spandrels, while the western arch is set back under a regulating course. Each major arch spans 4.3 meters with a rise of 1.8 meters above the river level and is supported by two water piers; the southern pier is larger and higher than the northern one. Both piers are chamfered back to the flush stone parapet, which is topped with large unshaped stones. At the southern end of the bridge, there is a lower segmental flood arch, and at the northern end, there is a small culvert. The entire structure measures approximately 24.4 meters in length (80 feet). The bridge was widened by 1.74 meters on the western side, resulting in a carriageway width of 3.9 meters with parapets of 0.43 meters on each side.
