Description

Moriah Methodist Chapel is a distinctive example of chapel design, built in the 18th century using local rubble. The chapel has a slated roof with deep boarded eaves and a moulded cornice. The front is symmetrical, featuring a long 2+3+2-window arrangement, a hipped roof, and apsidal ends that are cement rendered. The windows are tall and have small panes within metal frames, with the central three windows grouped under a pediment containing an oval date plaque flanked by decorative swags. The outer windows have square heads, while the apsidal ends feature high square windows with triangular panes. A bellcote with a swept pyramidal copper roof stands over the gable, although the bell is missing. A pair of panelled double doors with semicircular steps lead to the main entrance on the left side. A half-glazed lean-to extends from the left-hand end and the rear, and a rubble vestry is located to the rear, featuring three broad windows with metal frames and a cement rendered chimney stack. Clerestory windows with three panes are situated behind the vestry.

Inside, the chapel has a simple rectangular layout, retaining original furnishings, including a bowed front to the pulpit area and a stepped reredos behind the pulpit.
