Description
The 'A' Incline features drumhouses constructed from local rubblestone and slate slabs, with slate being the predominant material. Each drumhouse has a gable-ended graded slate roof, although drumhouse 2 is in poor condition with several missing slates. Inside, each drumhouse retains a winding drum and cabling, and the double track with rails on the incline is largely intact. The lower drumhouses, numbered 1 and 2, include brakesman's cabins that are well-built and equipped with fireplaces. Drumhouse 2 also has an adjoining office with a squint window for monitoring approaching wagons. A stone-walled path from Dinorwic to Llanberis crosses the incline via a cast-iron girder bridge. Additionally, the wall along the southwestern side of the track features heavy slate slabs that are cantilevered out to provide shelter for workers managing the wagons.
