Description
The incline and drumhouses are a Grade II listed structure featuring an incline that runs in five tandem pitches. The lower three pitches, including a section reconstructed by the Slate Museum, have much of the track and gear still intact. There are four unrestored drumhouses made of rubblestone and slate slabs, each topped with gable-ended slate roofs. All drumhouses retain their brake-drums and cabling, with the brake mechanisms on the lower inclines constructed from massive cast iron. These mechanisms are operated using spur gears and "ship's wheel" controls, which include elaborate remote control crimp sprags. Additionally, there is a double drumhouse located at the top level.
