Description
Llannerch is a large farmhouse built from stone rubble with large quoins and old irregular-sized slate roofs. It has two storeys and attics. The main block consists of three bays and includes a cellar at the southeast end, which is now filled, an added rear stair projection, and a service cross wing at the northwest end, creating an 'L'-shaped plan. The main front, facing southwest, features three window bays that are rendered and whitewashed, with a central door set within a small gabled porch. The original 16-pane over 4-pane sash windows have all been replaced. The rear of this range has a lean-to roof over the stair, and a 20th-century porch has been added over the rear door, which was opened through a former window. Gable end stacks are present, with the northern wing's stacks corbelled out. The cross wing has its gables built up in early brick, including the gable stacks, and features pigeon nest holes in the eastern gable spandrel. The windows are irregular, and there is a two-storey lean-to at the northeast end, adjacent to the main range, which contains the dairy and a room above.
Inside, the farmhouse is said to have had post and panel partitions that are now covered over, along with a good dog-leg stair that has been boxed in, with the upper newel cut off. There are chamfered ceiling beams, and a partially exposed beam in the main range's southeast room, which is now a passage, bears the inscription RM KM (fleur) 1687. The fleur is believed to be the badge of Collwyn ap Tangno. Another inscription was recorded by RCAHM on the passage partition but is no longer visible. The fireplaces have also been boxed in, and the cross wing currently lacks any internal floors.
