Description
The Midland Bank, located at 270 High Street in Bangor, is a three-storey building featuring a six-window ashlar front, which includes three pairs of windows. The façade is accentuated by quoins, cill bands, a cornice at the ground floor, and a plinth. The ground floor is channelled for the bank, and the building has a slate roof with bracket eaves and cement render chimney stacks.
The first and second floors have sash windows, some of which are 12-pane, although most have had their glazing bars removed from the lower sashes. To the far left, the bank features a classical porch that includes a parapet, an open pediment, tapered pilasters, and a lugged architrave. There are steps leading up to panelled double doors adorned with scrolled ornamentation and a sign that reads "Bank established 1836." The ground floor has modern bank windows and a contemporary shop front for the building society. Some cast-iron railings from the original design have been retained.
The left side of the building is rendered and includes small attic windows along with some sash windows. There is a flat-roofed, two-storey extension at the rear and a similar extension on the right side. The right side and rear are also cement rendered, featuring grilled small pane sash windows and modern dormers at the rear.
