Description

The Alliance and Leicester Building Society, located at 270 High Street in Bangor, is a three-storey building featuring a six-window ashlar front, which includes three pairs of windows. The facade is characterized by quoins, cill bands, a cornice at the ground floor, and a plinth, with the ground floor of the bank being channelled. The building has a slate roof with bracket eaves and cement-rendered chimney stacks.

On the first and second floors, there are sash windows, some of which are 12-pane, although most have had their glazing bars removed from the lower sashes. The bank section has a classical porch on the far left, which includes a parapet, an open pediment, tapered pilasters, and a lugged architrave. Steps lead up to panelled double doors adorned with scrolled ornamentation and a sign that reads "Bank established 1836." The building also features modern windows for the bank and a modern shop front for the building society, with some contemporary cast-iron railings still in place.

The left side of the building is rendered and includes small attic windows along with some sash windows. There is a flat-roofed, two-storey extension at the rear and a similar extension on the right side. The right side and rear are also cement rendered, featuring grilled small-pane sash windows and modern dormers at the rear.
