Description
The Clock Tower is a square red brick structure featuring a plinth and freestone dressings, including surrounds for the clock faces above a dentil cornice. It has a timber octagonal cupola with two stages and a weathervane. The clock faces are adorned with bracketed round arched hoods that have reed and bobbin borders. The corners of the tower are rounded and supported by projecting pilaster buttresses. There are steps leading up to a square-headed entrance on the northwest side, which has a lintel and a modern multipanelled door. Above the entrance is a slate tablet inscribed in both languages, referencing the restoration that took place in 1986. The tower also features slit windows with handmade brick stepped voussoirs. On the southeast side, there is another tablet, inscribed similarly, set within a Baroque frame that includes a volute bracketed pediment, enriched pilasters, and a scalloped base, with a ‘TL’ monogram on the keystone.
