Description

Pwllheli Railway Station is a single-storey building constructed of timber boarding. It features boarded pitched roofs with felt covering and red brick chimney stacks, along with wide overhanging eaves. The front of the station is asymmetrical due to an extension on the left and an enlargement of the right-hand cross range. The building is 14 windows long and has four gables, with the broadest gable located at the right end. Each gable has curved back finials and plain bargeboards. The windows are horned sash types with margins and glazing bars on the upper sashes, positioned above a high, horizontally boarded plinth. The upper section of the building is vertically boarded with principal uprights, and the gables are decorated to suggest a timber roof truss.

The ticket office entrance is located to the left of the centre and features panelled double doors. The south side of the cross range has five small windows and two additional windows similar to those on the front, linked by a middle rail. The north end, above the broad concourse entry, displays similar gable detailing. The main range mirrors this design on the inner side, which includes more doorways. The concourse is covered by a pitched perspex roof supported by two large tapered iron piers, with longitudinal strengthening provided by members between the principals and cranked ties. This structure was built by Dorman Long and Co Ltd of Middlesborough. The roof extends for two bays along the platform and includes a valence and moulded cornice at the gable.
