Description
Sarn y Plas is a cottage made of whitewashed rubble stone with slate roofs, dating from the 18th century. It is a single-storey building situated on a slope, featuring stone stacks—smaller at the eastern end and larger at the western end—both with drip stones. There is a former outbuilding attached to the west, which is stepped uphill and has a higher roofline.
The northern front of the cottage has a ledged door with projecting stones at the jambs, which may be an early feature similar to those found in barns at Methlem. To the right of the door is a four-pane casement window. The cottage is supported by large boulder footings. The eastern end wall includes a loft light and a smaller window below it.
Attached at a right angle to the northeast of the house is a small pigsty with a monopitch roof, featuring a grouted slate roof and stone slabs framing the door. There is a range uphill from the cottage that has a single half-glazed door at the centre, reaching up to the eaves, and one small window to the right. At the upper end of this range is a 20th-century addition that runs south, with a hipped angle on the northwest side.
The southern rear of the cottage is constructed from rubble stone and has two four-pane casement windows; the lower window has a slab lintel, while the upper one is located under the eaves. There is also a door leading to the uphill section, which may have been inserted in the 20th century, along with the 20th-century range that runs south to enclose the upper end.
