Description

No. 2 Rock Cottages is a cottage made of white painted rubble stone, featuring a slate eaves roof and a red brick stack at the right end. It is one storey high with an attic and has a double fronted design. The cottage includes large 19th-century eaves that break into gabled dormers, with a cambered-headed window on each side of the door. On the ground floor, there is a pair of casement windows with small panes and iron opening lights, positioned beside a cambered-headed ledged door. The two gabled dormers are adorned with bargeboards and finials, and they contain long casement pairs with small panes, iron opening lights, and old catches. Above the door, there is a recessed panel that has been infilled since 1983. A straight joint in the front wall indicates the connection to The Piggin. The rear elevation features exposed square panels of timber-framing with plaster infilling.

To the left, there is a matching single bay 19th-century addition with a brick end stack, a similar dormer, and a rendered wall over a renewed slate lean-to roof. This addition includes a three-sided bay window and an open porch leading to a modern door. The end wall is partly brick and partly stone, suggesting that it was built up from a lower outbuilding.

Inside, the joists and beams in the right room are covered over, while the left room features a chamfered axial beam and joists.
