Description
Bwthyn yr Ardd at Plas yn Rhiw is a cottage constructed from rubble stone, featuring a close-eaved roof made of large slates and stone chimneys, which are slightly larger at the eastern end. The north front, which was formerly whitewashed, is divided by a wall that extends to the end wall of Plas-yn-Rhiw. On the right side, there is a ledged door and a narrow 6-pane window, while on the left, there is an inserted door and window, along with a stone eaves dormer above that contains a pair of leaded casements. The eastern end wall has a lean-to with a broad opening on the right and a ledged door on the left, both featuring slab lintels. This lean-to includes a window that looks into the cottage and another window on the northern end. The rear southern side has a 6-pane window on the left and two 16-pane windows, with the right window also having a slab lintel. The western end has a rubble-stone privy with a single-pitch roof and a door facing south.
While not available for inspection, it is reported that the western end has a fireplace with a brick bread oven on the left side. The interior has been altered, featuring a modern croglofft stair that reuses old timbers. There are modern partitions, with a bedroom at the eastern end that includes a small fireplace, and a lounge that is open to the rafters with a cobble floor. The roof timbers have been modernized.
