Description
The Mill at Felin Newydd is a 19th-century corn mill constructed from squared grey granite rubble, topped with a slate close-eaved roof. It stands three stories tall, featuring a one-window range with an additional one-window range in the splayed southwest angle. Attached to the south is a two-storey corn-drying kiln. The mill has cambered-headed openings with stone voussoirs and slate sills, and the entry is located in the southwest angle with a broad door. Above the door is a plaque that reads 'R.E.A. 1823 Na ladratta', which translates to 'Richard and Arabella Edwards, Do not steal'. Each floor has a large window, and there are three similar windows, one on each floor, at the center of the west range, which are remnants of small-paned glazing. The mill wheel was situated in a wheel-pit at the northern end, and the rear of the building features windows on the first and second floors.
The drying kiln addition has a west-facing front with two square loft windows, a door to the ground floor on the left, and a blocked opening on the ground floor to the right. The rear of the kiln has a window and a door at the first floor, with the ground level being lower due to the slope of the land.
Inside, there are heavy pine floor beams and a central wooden stair. While the machinery has been removed, three grind-stones remain in place on the first floor. The roof is a two-bay structure with a wishbone truss. The drying range includes a small store on the ground floor to the left and a loft with a pierced tile floor and wishbone roof trusses.
