Description
6-8 High Street is a pair of late Georgian houses constructed from coursed rubble stone, featuring a graded slate roof and end stacks that have been rebuilt in brick. The buildings rise three storeys, each with a single window range, creating a nearly symmetrical appearance. The central doorways are paired and have replaced panelled doors with radial-glazed overlights above. The windows on the right are 16-pane hornless sashes, while the left side has paired 8-pane horned sashes. The first and second storeys contain hornless sashes with 12 and 9 panes, respectively. All window and door openings have flat arched stone voussoir heads.
The left gable end of No 8 is rendered due to the removal of an attached house, and it features a coped stone wall that flanks a gateway leading to a car park behind. At the rear, there are doorways with shallow segmental heads on the inner sides, each fitted with replaced boarded doors. No 6 is otherwise blank at the back, while No 8 has had 4-pane sash windows inserted in each storey. The interiors have been modernised. This pair of houses belongs to a group at 6-8 High Street.
