Description
5 Castle Street is a late Georgian house featuring three bays and three storeys, constructed from coursed dressed stone with a replaced hipped slate roof. The lower storey has a slightly projecting plinth below the sill level. The wide central doorway has a round head with prominent voussoirs and a radial-glazed overlight, although the door itself has been replaced. The windows have flat heads with voussoirs, and the middle and upper storeys include sill bands. The ground floor has 12-pane horned sash windows, while the first and second storeys feature similar 9-pane windows.
The left side wall facing Castle Street has two bays, with tripartite horned sash windows on the left and a shallow broad canted bay on the right that incorporates 12-pane horned sash windows. At the left end, there is a round-headed doorway with a replaced door that is recessed and accessed by steps, leading to a through passage beneath the upper storeys. The right side wall retains sash windows but has an added two-storey wing, which is a separate property known as Plas Llanwnda.
The interior has been modernised and the layout altered, but remnants of the original plan remain, including a central entrance hall and principal rooms on the right and left.
