Description
4 Castle Street is a Georgian, two-bay, three-storey house featuring pebble-dashed walls painted cream and a slate roof. The entrance has a central fielded-panel door with a diamond-paned overlight, set within a case that includes moulded consoles and a billeted cornice. Above the door is a re-set niche, which has '1628' crudely engraved on its left side, although it is in a late medieval style and likely dates from the 16th century. This niche has a cusped ogee head with sunk spandrels and displays a winged angel in relief holding a heraldic shield featuring a chevron and three wolves' heads. The windows are framed with architraves; the lower storey has fixed metal-framed office windows with small sliding centre panes, while the first floor features 12-pane hornless sashes, and the upper storey has similar 9-pane sashes. The interior has been modernised.
