Description

Red Hill is a Georgian house dating from the 18th century, featuring two storeys and an attic, constructed of rendered rubble with a slate roof. The symmetrical front façade includes a three-light bay window at each end and three sash windows in between, with small panes in the first-floor windows. There are three hipped dormers with horizontal-sliding sashes and glazing bars. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door, with the top four panels being glazed, set within a finely moulded doorcase that includes an architrave, fluted pilasters, and a pediment. An unusual void is present between the capitals and the pediment, replacing a traditional entablature that was removed in a 1940s photograph but has since been restored.

Inside, the main staircase features a quarter-spiral design with a Vitruvian scroll at the tread ends. The landing is adorned with a shouldered architrave. The upper front room showcases fluted pilasters and a dentilled cornice, while the rooms throughout the house are fitted with six-panel doors. The upper flights of the back stairs feature slender turned balusters typical of early 18th-century design.
