Outbuildings at Cochwillan

The outbuildings at Cochwillan are an L-shaped range of single-storey structures, built in the 19th century. The south range includes a cart shelter on the east side, while the west range serves as stables. The buildings are constructed of roughly coursed rubblestone, with slightly different masonry in the northern part of the west range, and feature slate roofs that are hipped at both ends of the south range.

The south range has a 2-bay cart shelter on the left, and on the right, there is a boarded door flanked by ventilator windows with slate cills, along with a brick ridge stack. The west range has a roughly central boarded door with a ventilator window to the right, and a single-storey lean-to addition at the rear. To the right of this addition, there are two ventilator windows.

Inside the northern part of the west range, there are four bays supported by three trusses, which include substantial raking struts connecting the tie beams to the principal rafters. The central truss has been reconfigured with a replacement tie at collar level and features double purlins. The original extent of the building to the south is marked by a stone cross wall, beyond which there is an A-frame truss leading to the 2-bay infill section that connects with the south range. This section includes a king-post truss between the cart bays. The west range also contains well-preserved slate and timber stall partitions.
