Description
The Customs House is a Georgian building, similar in design to the Harbour Office. It is two storeys high and constructed from local Mona marble stone, featuring a hipped slate roof and stone chimneys topped with modern caps. The front has three bays framed by prominent pilasters, a sill band, a plinth, and a shaped cornice with a blocking course above. The windows are horned small-pane sash types, which have been replaced with modern versions, and the central entrance is now blocked with a window inserted. The right-hand end has pebbledash, and there is an adjoining rubble wall that connects the Customs House with the Harbour Office. At the rear, there is a brick chimney and lean-tos, along with a large modern flat-roof extension to the left that features horned small-pane sash windows. This extension projects at the left end and includes the current main entrance. Detached replacement customs offices have been built at the rear. The interior has been altered due to office conversion and renovation.
