Description

14 Church Street is a late-Georgian style, three-storey, three-bay house featuring a scribed render front and a slate roof. It is part of a row with Nos 12 and 16 Church Street. The house has a brick stack on the right, which has been rebuilt, and a shared replacement brick stack on the left. The entrance is slightly off-center to the right and includes a recessed fielded-panel door with an overlight. The windows are hornless sashes with slate sills, and the lower and middle storeys have moulded architraves. The lower storey features a 12-pane window on the right and a larger 16-pane window on the left. The middle storey has 12-pane windows in the outer bays and a central canted two-light oriel window. The upper storey contains 9-pane windows and a blind central window.

At the rear, there is a two-storey wing on the right side made of cream-painted brick with a slate roof. This wing has small-pane windows on the right side and a replacement door and window on the left. In the main range, which is constructed of rubble-stone with brick dressings, there is a 12-pane hornless sash window in the lower storey, a 9-pane hornless sash window in the middle storey, and two similar upper-storey windows.

Inside, the house has a double-depth plan with a central stair hall. At the rear of the hall, there is a full-height open-well stair featuring plain balusters and a turned newel. The interior retains seven polished slate fireplaces in a minimal classical style, with the largest located in the left room of the lower storey and in the first-floor drawing room.
