Description

This is a group of three late-Georgian style shops with attached houses, at 18-22 Church Street. The buildings are three storeys high, with pebble-dashed walls, a slate roof, and roughcast stacks, although some sections have been rebuilt using brick. The shop fronts feature panelled pilasters, fascia, and a simple moulded cornice to numbers 18 and 20, but the shop front at number 22 has been replaced. A panelled pilaster sits between the recessed front doors, the left-hand door leading to the house and the right-hand to the shop. Number 18 has replacement half-glazed doors with 3-pane overlights; the right-hand door has been replaced, and the shop window is also a plain replacement, with an added sign board to the fascia. Number 20 retains an original panelled house door with two fielded upper panels, and has a replacement glazed shop door, both with 3-pane overlights. Number 22 has a replacement panelled door to the house and a replacement half-glazed shop door, also with replacement overlights.

The middle floor windows have moulded architraves around 12-pane horned sashes, although number 20 has hornless sashes. The upper floor has smooth-rendered eared architraves; number 20 retains 9-pane horned sashes, while numbers 18 and 22 have replacement small-pane top-hung casements.

At the rear of number 18, there is a two-storey wing with 2-pane sash windows on the right side. The property was not inspected.
