Description
This is a group of three late-Georgian style shops with attached houses, located at 18-22 Church Street. The buildings are three storeys high and have pebble-dashed walls, a slate roof, and roughcast stacks, with some parts rebuilt in brick. The shop fronts feature panelled pilasters, fascias, and a simple moulded cornice to numbers 18 and 20; the shop front to number 22 has been replaced. A panelled pilaster sits between the recessed entrance doors, the left-hand door leading to the house and the right-hand to the shop. Number 18 has replacement half-glazed doors with 3-pane overlights, the right-hand door being a replacement, and a plain replacement shop window. A sign board has been added to the fascia. Number 20 retains an original panelled house door with fielded upper panels, and a replacement glazed shop door, both with 3-pane overlights. Number 22 has replacement panelled doors for both the house and the shop, with replacement overlights.
The middle storey windows have moulded architraves and 12-pane horned sashes, except at number 20, where the horns have been removed. The upper storey has smooth-rendered eared architraves; number 20 retains 9-pane horned sashes, while numbers 18 and 22 have replacement small-pane top-hung casements. There are rear additions to number 22. The buildings belong to a group of 18-22 Church Street.
