Description

The lofted cartshed and cowhouse range at Bodafon Isaf is a building constructed from rubble masonry, featuring large quoins and dressed stone voussoir lintels above the shallow arched opening of the loft doorway and cartbay entrance. Located at the eastern end of the range, the lofted cartshed includes stabling for two horses. The cartshed has a grouted roof made of small slates at the front, which has been repaired with corrugated metal at the rear, along with a tiled ridge and coping, and a square squat stack at the western gable. Access to the loft is provided by an external flight of stone steps with a recess below. The cartshed entrance, which opens to the north, is located at the right (western) end, while a single boarded opening to the left features a large stone lintel and a small louvred opening positioned under the eaves above.

To the right (west) of the cartshed, the linear range has four doorways with small windows in between, most of which are topped with slate lintels. The rear of this range has seen three timber-framed windows inserted into enlarged or modern openings. The entire range is built of rubble masonry and has been re-roofed with slates.

The hammel range, constructed from coursed rubble masonry, also features a slate roof with a tiled ridge and coping. Some of the wide doorways in this range have been partially blocked, with modern windows added.

The interior of the loft could not be inspected, but the ceiling of the cartshed has been renewed. The cowhouse range to the right (west) contains chamfered A-frame trusses. The interior of the hammel range was not inspected.
