The Portcullis, 271-273 High Street, Linlithgow

The Portcullis, located at 271-273 High Street in Linlithgow, is an early 19th century remodelling of an earlier building. It is a two-storey, three-bay tenement featuring dormers, a pend, and licensed premises on the ground floor. The structure is made of cream sandstone rubble and includes a base and eaves course with raised margins.

On the northern elevation, there is a door in the center, a deep-set door to the pend on the right, and a wide window with modern fixed 16-pane glazing on the left. The upper level has regular fenestration. The windows are plate glass sash and case, with modern glazing in the attic. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a modern slate-hung twin dormer. There is an ashlar coped skew to the left, accompanied by a harled stack.
