Description
Dalmuir (Riverside) Station, built around 1896 for the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway, is a single-storey building with an attic, likely designed by architect J J Burnet. The station features free style detailing and is constructed of brick with red sandstone dressings. The forecourt has a frontage that includes a segmentally arched entrance on the left, which is set beneath a boldly consoled segmental pediment. Above this, there is a corbelled parapet and angle bartizans topped with a pyramidal roof and finial.
To the right, there is a low range with corniced doors and windows, flanked by pilaster strips, all connected by a string course and wide frieze. The building also includes three piended dormers that are integrated into the cornice. The taller pilastered bay on the right features a tripartite window at ground level, with a balconied single light above that has a segmental head breaking the eaves. Square ridge stacks are waisted below the cornice, and the roof is covered with slate.
