Description

The Titan Cantilever Crane, located at John Brown's Shipyard in Clydebank, was constructed between 1907 and 1914, with the crane itself built in 1907 by Sir William Arrol and Co Ltd in collaboration with Stothert and Pitt for John Brown. This impressive structure is a giant cantilever crane with a capacity of 150 tons, which was upgraded to 200 tons in 1937. It is positioned on the west side of the fitting out basin and features a lattice girder tower that supports a roller track. This track allows the asymmetrical cantilever truss gib to rotate, with a motor room and counterweight located at the shorter end.

The fitting out dock is a large U-shaped area that was formerly used for fitting out ships. It includes concrete and timber piling, along with some bollards, and features concrete-paved walkways. At the rear of the dock, concrete piers support the structure, with former plant rooms situated behind them.
