Description

The Clydebank Co-Operative Society is a large four-storey commercial building located at 2 Sylvania Way South in Clydebank, designed by Robert Stewart of Stewart & Patterson of Glasgow and dated 1916. The building features framed construction with Edwardian baroque detailing, constructed from stone-cleaned red ashlar, which is partly granite at the ground level.

It has original shop fronts and a giant order that extends through the first and second storeys, featuring Ionic columns at the corners. Above these, there is a block over the wall-head adorned with figurative sculpture. The bays are accentuated with pilaster strips, and the top storey is treated as an attic, complete with entablatures and iron window balconies at the top floor. The roof is concealed from the street view. Additionally, there are low two-storey ranges on either side of the main building.
